GPM Convenience Stores one of the fastest growing chains in the US operates over 1250 stores in 20 states under the various banners including FasMart, Scotchman, Village Pantry, Admiral, Next Door, Shore Stop, Jiffi Stop Jiffy Stop, Young’s, E-Z Mart, Lil Cricket, Apple market, Breadbox, Road Runner, One Stop and Town Star. Currently the 6th largest convenience store chain in the country.
Rich has served in the Convenience store industry since 1973 when he fell in love with grocery retailing while working in high school. Serving every role possible he found his passion in marketing and merchandising in the early 1980’s where he spent his career in the Midwest and southeast with many successful chains including Hop-in, Fast Fare, Crown Petroleum, Swannee Swifty , the Worsley Companies and GPM.
Rich played a key role as a member of the South Carolina association of Convenience stores in working with the government and legislatures on getting the South Carolina Education lottery bill passed that was favorable for all parties. Governor Hodges appointed Mione to the first Lottery Retailer Advisory Board in 2003.
Rich has been in the Convenience store business for 45 years and continues with a true passion and excitement for the industry. He has served on the South Carolina Association of Convenience Stores for 29 years and three different times as President. This summer the Association honored him into their Hall of Fame.
Through his career Rich has spoken at many state events and NACS conventions. His charity and fund raising activities earned him the prestigious silver beaver award presented to him by the Boy Scouts of America. Rich and his Lovely Wife Kathy live in Wilmington, NC.
